Stripe Terminal / Tap to Pay: Stripe Terminal and Tap to Pay built into your POS, kiosk or mobile app.

Bring in-person payments into your existing product without separating the device experience from your backend. We connect payment intent creation, native reader or Tap to Pay collection, device state and reliable server-side confirmation.

01The problem

Your payment flow crosses devices, SDKs and backend state.

In-person payments run partly on hardware and native SDKs, partly in your interface and partly on your server. Each boundary is a place for state to drift.

  1. 01

    Web UI, native SDK

The in-person SDK runs natively while your product's interface may be a web app.

  2. 02

    Mismatched states

The device, the client and the payment disagree about whether a payment happened.

  3. 03

    Connection and recovery

Readers disconnect, devices sleep and collections are interrupted mid-payment.

  4. 04

    Double collection

Retries after a timeout risk charging the same order twice.

  5. 05

    Pairing and capability checks

Reader pairing, Tap to Pay support and device capability have to be checked, not assumed.

  6. 06

    Refunds, receipts, reconciliation

In-person payments still need refunds, receipts and a ledger that matches.

03Case study

Megapos Ltd — Stripe Terminal Tap to Pay kiosk.

Megapos Ltd

Stripe Terminal Tap to Pay kiosk

Problem
Megapos, a point-of-sale company, needed in-person card payments inside a kiosk app whose interface is a web app, while Stripe Terminal Tap to Pay runs natively on the device.
What we built
A Flutter WebView kiosk with a Node/Express backend and a native Kotlin bridge to Stripe Terminal Tap to Pay. The PaymentIntent and its client secret pass securely from the web layer to Flutter to Kotlin, so the payment is collected natively without exposing keys in the web app.
Stack
  • Flutter
  • Kotlin
  • Stripe Terminal
  • Tap to Pay
  • Node.js
  • Express

04Technical flow

A payment travels through more than one app layer.

The server holds the authoritative payment state. Retries are idempotent, and secret keys never reach the device or the web layer.

  2. 02POS backendCreates the PaymentIntentthen

  5. 05StripeProcesses the resultthen
  6. 06Server-side confirmationEvent confirmed oncethen
  7. 07Order marked paidPOS updatedConfirmed

What we verifyThe order is marked paid only when the server has confirmed the payment, never on the device's word alone.

05Project types

Choose the integration that matches your product.

  • Countertop POS

A reader at the counter, paired to your POS software, with orders and receipts in your system.

  • Self-service kiosk

Unattended checkout on a kiosk, where recovery from interrupted payments matters most.

  • Mobile staff checkout

Staff take payments on a phone or handheld, with Tap to Pay where the device and region support it.

  • Hybrid Flutter/web-native application

A web or Flutter interface with a native layer for the Terminal SDK, like the Megapos kiosk.

Device, SDK and regional availability must be verified for each deployment. Tap to Pay does not work on every phone or in every country. See the Stripe Terminal documentation.

06Handover

What gets delivered.

  • A hardware, device and account eligibility assessment.
  • The native or WebView architecture, implemented in your repository.
  • PaymentIntent and order state flow, secure auth patterns and failure handling.
  • Test mode, supported-device tests and recovery scenarios.
  • Operational logging, health checks, a go-live runbook and handover notes.
  • Post-launch support on an agreed basis.

Exact deliverables depend on the scope we agree in writing.

09Questions

Stripe Terminal questions, answered first.

The short answer leads. Open any row for the full one, in the same words we would use on the call.

01Can Stripe Terminal work inside a web-based kiosk interface?Yes, with a native bridge

Yes, depending on the architecture, with a secure, supported native SDK or device bridge where one is required. The Megapos kiosk is an example: a web interface with a Flutter WebView and a Kotlin bridge to Stripe Terminal.

02Can you integrate Tap to Pay with Flutter or Android? After a platform review

We first review the supported SDK and platform integration paths, device models and regions. A native bridge may be necessary.

03Do we need a dedicated card reader? It depends on device and region

It depends on Tap to Pay support for your devices and region, and on the flow you want. We review hardware options with you during discovery.

04Can you fix payments stuck in processing or orders marked incorrectly?Yes, from the event trail

Yes. We investigate backend event handling, client and reader states, idempotency and recovery paths, then fix the cause.

05Do you provide hardware?No — software engineering

No. This is a software engineering service. Any hardware sourcing or testing requirements are clarified in the scope; we do not ship hardware.

06How do you test the implementation before launch?Simulated, then on real devices

With Stripe test and simulated flows where supported, explicit failure scenarios, and validation on actual compatible hardware before release.
